I walk in the door and get tumbled by my two Border Aussies; one with a ball in her mouth and the other running to go get his toy, with each second looking back at me making sure I am still watching him. Some would get annoyed by this, but I find such joy watching their excitement and seeing their love and loyalty shining through them. How many people do you know that would drop everything they are doing to greet you when you walk through the door? Honestly, when your mom, dad, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, friend, anyone who walks through the door, do you drop whatever you are doing to say hi to the person, show the person you love them, ask how their day went; or, do you just stay where you are and say hi and go back to what you are doing? How is it possible a dog can be more loving and loyal and a better friend than a human being? Did God not call us all to be his hands and feet and to be an image of Him?

For years, I prayed and begged my parents to allow me to get a dog. I had just moved from Texas to California and I was very lonely. Sadly, I had to wait two years, then one year for Christmas, I was told I can get a dog. Immediately I started searching and searching and some more searching and one day my family and I went to Walmart and this women was selling Border Aussie puppies. Of course I ran over to the women and started playing with her sweet, lovely puppies. Later that night I got home and I searched the breed of Border Aussies and found out they were super hipper, but, I still wanted one. So, I called the breeder and I asked her some questions and chose a date that I was going to go down and see the puppies. When I got there, I decided I wanted this cute, little, quiet boy puppy. He was the only one not jumping and he was sitting all alone. A few weeks later I got him! I bought him toys, took him every where, trained him, and even slept on the floor next to his kennel so he would not be alone; I loved this puppy so much. The only problem with him was that he looked at me as another puppy and would bite me and play rough with me. About three months after I got him, I went back to the breeder to allow him to play with his sisters. There was this sweet, shy little girl whom I fell in love with. The next day I brought my mom over to the breeders house so that she could see the little girl. When we got there the breeder told me that I could take her home and see how she does with him. Well, lets just say she never left. They have such different personalities that it is crazy, yet, they are both just as loving and loyal and a great friend as each other.

I will never forget that a few weeks after I got my little boy, I was in my room crying, my parents put him in the kennel, and when they did that, he went crazy. He was barking and crying. All he wanted to do, was to come and sit in my lap and get me to stop crying. That day, is when I realized how loyal a dog really is. He did not want me to be sad; his small brain, was able to comprehend that I was sad and needed someone to hold me and to make it all better.

Now, lets get to human beings, why do we have such a hard time showing love and affection to others? If dogs can do it, why can we not? It must not be too difficult to. As Gods creation, human beings are called to be dominion over ALL of creation, in Genesis it is written, Then God said,

“Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth. (ESV, Genesis 1:26-28)

We are made in the image of God yet we cannot even treat others the way he wants us too. Even animals can treat human beings better than we can treat each other! That astonishes me! Why is this happening? God has called us to love one another, there is even a whole book in the bible over love and how we are to love each other, yet we still have a hard time doing it. Are we blind? Instructions are right in front of our faces, yet we still have the hardest time loving! Dogs cannot even read, but they have love instilled   in their brains, it is crazy!

We need to be more loving and loyal. Next time your mom, dad, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, friend, or anyone that walks through the door stop what you are doing and show them that you care and that you would love to hear about their day. Be there for a friend who is struggling and needs to know that they are loved by others. Stop being selfish, and live like Christ! Be greater than a dog.
